Wednesday, 1st April – Collected the car from the showroom. I was told that the only reason it wouldn’t start was that the key was too far from the dashboard.
Saturday, 4th April – Deleted a lot of recorded television programmes to make room for new ones. Received my new debit card.
Thursday, 9th April – Saw a grey squirrel on my way home from the shops. Listened to a radio programme about the first people to go to the Moon since the 1970s.
Saturday, 11th April – Saw a jay on my way home from the shops. The last time I saw one was many years ago.
Monday, 13th April – Went for a walk on my own on Kendal Fell in fine weather. I came across an interesting building in Boundary Bank Lane, but I couldn’t get the camera to work.
Tuesday, 12th April – Took the camera back to Wilkinsons, who got it working.
Friday, 17th April – Received an email from Kate Young saying that they were able to digitise the papers I gave to Derek Cockell and that the digitised version is now in the Cumbria Archives.
Saturday, 18th April – Went with Kate Young to Settle to join the Wainwright Society walk to the Langcliff Quarry Trail, where there were interesting underground passages. Many of the trees were in leaf. Bought a copy of Just Another Pile of Stones by Christine Shepherd from the author. We discovered that we both mentioned in our respective books that we had rescued a sheep that was trapped in a wire-mesh fence. What is remarkable is not so much that we both had the same experience but that we were able to find out about it.
Friday, 24th April – Someone on the radio said that Sidney James was born in Hancock Street. I already knew that Buzz Aldrin’s mother’s maiden name was Moon.
Saturday, 25th April – Went with Kate Young to Haworth in beautiful weather to join the Wainwright Society walk to Top Withins. Found an unfamiliar ladybird, which I gave to Helen, who photographed it and said that she would identify it for me. Gave her a copy of Happy Memories. Peter Lewis said that he would like one too.
Monday, 27th April – Sent a copy of Happy Memories to Peter Lewis. Went for a walk on Scout Scar at six o’clock in the morning and took photographs of various wild flowers.
Wednesday, 29th April – Took photographs of an unfamiliar tree on my way home from the shops.
