Friday, 6th June – Watched some of my selections from ‘Flight over Spain’ on my website and found that the pictures were far too wide compared with the height. While I was watching them, Chris phoned and said that on his computer, the pictures are the right shape.

Monday, 9th June – Identified a buff-tailed bumblebee that I saw on my way to Booths. Received a pleasing email from someone who used my Purbeck guide last week.

Wednesday, 11th June – Went on an eight-mile walk in perfect weather with twenty members of the Kendal Ramblers from Dent to Cowgill Church. In the church, I found a book written by Roddy Begg, whom I knew when I lived in Dorset. Took a photograph of a caddis fly that I found in the churchyard. Heard a cuckoo for the first time in two years. Came across a chicken that was on the wrong side of a fence, and this time I was the person to lift up the chicken and drop it on the other side of the fence.

When I set off for home, I couldn’t start the car, and I couldn’t phone the R.A.C. using my mobile phone. Neither could someone else who tried. Eventually, someone started the car using jump leads. Everyone was most helpful.

Thursday, 12th June – Took the car to Cumbria Suzuki, where they said that they can’t repair it until Monday.

Friday, 13th June – Received an email from Kate Young offering to give me a lift to the start of the Wainwright Society walk tomorrow. Little did she know how welcome that was!

Saturday, 14th June – Went with Kate Young from Kendal to Embsay station near Skipton and by steam train from there to Bolton Abbey station, then on a seven-mile walk with twenty-five members of the Wainwright Society to Bolton Priory and the Strid, which I have never been to before. Somebody showed me a remarkable circular pothole near the Strid. Rain was forecast, but it didn’t materialise. Kate Young is now the secretary of the Wainwright Society. Helen Hackney said that, like me, she had seen a cucumber spider since the last time I saw her. Came across a dead tree with a vast number of coins pressed into it like the one near the Ingleton waterfalls.

Monday, 16th June – Looked at the well in front of the Old Grammar school and found that it went down a long way, unlike the one I saw last October. The only things that were missing were the rope and bucket. This is the only proper well that I have ever seen in Britain. Sent a message about the old Grammar School to the Wainwright Facebook site, and later found the message on the site.

Tuesday, 17th June – Again, rain was forecast, and this time it did materialise. Because my car was still being repaired, I went from Kendal to Honister by bus, but the first bus never turned up and the last one went past Honister without stopping. Gave Chris Butterfield my latest selections from television and my selections from 1984 to 2014, which I hope he can upload to my website. Mark Richards, Chris, and Lorena Linke were also there. I thought we were planning to walk to Haystacks, but somehow I got left behind. Somebody very kindly lent me a jacket because I was too cold. Went with somebody else to look at the fenced area near Honister, where sheep had been excluded to encourage wild flowers. There weren’t many wild flowers there, but there were a lot of young trees. Paul and Mike Duff gave me a lift back to Kendal.

Wednesday, 18th June – Read a message on the Wainwright Facebook site that gave me the chance to describe all the changes that have recently taken place at the old Grammar School.

Thursday, 19th June – Found a photograph of myself at Honister on the Wainwright Facebook site, together with a message from someone saying that it was good to see me there. People never used to say things like that about me when I was young.

Sunday, 22nd June – Found a message on the computer asking if I wanted to order a halogen heater, and as I happened to need one, I did so. Had another look at the photographs on the Wainwright Facebook site and noticed that one of them shows the ‘young trees’ that I mentioned in my diary on June 17th. Rearranged the 2½-inch Ordnance Survey maps in numerical order so that I can find them more easily.

Monday, 23rd June – Identified a wild flower that was growing in the Blind Beck as yellow corydalis, which is also known as rock fumewort. Went through my website and found that the video of my journey to Africa was missing. Later, I was able to find the video on the discs I got back from Designworks.

Tuesday, 24th June – After trying for years, I managed to compose a short blog to accompany the introduction of part of my collection of scenes from television to my website. Received the heater I ordered. I am still hearing episodes of The Goon Show that I don’t remember having heard before.

Wednesday, 25th June – Suddenly remembered that I have the whole of my collection of scenes from television on a computer memory stick, which means that the whole collection can now be uploaded to the internet.

Saturday, 28th June – Had a look at the version of my selections on a computer memory stick. An enormous amount of work would have to be done on them before they can be uploaded to my website: some sequences have been lost; some include unwanted scenes; and in some cases, the picture quality is poor.
